During a holiday a set of wheels always comes in very handy. However, no one wants to spend $45 or more on just car rental. When you’re on a holiday your aim is to make the trip as budget friendly as possible as and more often than not taxis and car rentals often end up costing an exuberant amount. The good news is that there are ways that can help you score great discounts on car rentals and save extra cash on your next holiday.
1. Shop Around
When it comes to driving around on a budget then be sure to browse around for cheap car rentals online. There are a lot of websites that offer great discounts, promotions and price comparisons. Websites like Kayak, Priceline, and Cheapcarrentals.com are great for all of the above. Once you’ve found a deal that you like you will be directed to the car rentals company’s website. You may find even better discounts on promotions that have the “pay now” options. Be warned, the “pay now” options are always non-refundable.
As long as you have only booked your car rental, and haven’t paid in advance you can still browse online for even better deals closer to your departure. You can always cancel your reservation if you find a better price.
2. Opt For Budget Rentals
There are a lot of budget friendly brands like Payless, Advantage and Dollar Rental that are great at luring customers in with great discounts. Since we travel a lot, we discovered that there is at least a $5 price difference between the budget friendly brands and the cheapest offer from the premium car rentals. Obviously, this price difference depends on the country and the city you’re heading off to. Once those $5 add up you end up saving quite a bit of money on a longer trip.
3. Skip The Airport
Although renting a car at an airport is very convenient, but that convenience will come at a cost. Car rentals charge more at the airport because of airport surcharges and you don’t want to be paying that extra money. The extra surcharge depends on the city and the season. Sometimes you’ll find that the price difference is only $6 and sometimes it is a massive $10.
Before heading for your holiday compare prices for car rental at the airport and online. You can always factor in the price of an Uber, Lyft or a Taxi as well to and from your car rental location.
4. Pick Economy
It’s common knowledge that economy cars are usually the cheapest, and obviously most likely to get booked the quickest. Travel experts recommend booking the smallest, cheapest car available, because there is a chance it won’t be available at the time you get there. When the car that the customer booked in advance isn’t available at the time of rental then the company usually provides a free upgrade.
